K:anode scowled. The sun was scorching down on the baseball pitch. When he touched the ground, even it stung with the heat. He tried to take shelter under a tree, but the PE teacher kept calling him back out to go fetch the freshmen's throw outs. He hated sport with passion. Always had. He hated the people who played them, hated the nonsense of getting excited over chasing some ball around a field. He'd much rather return to his books, notes, music or just idle silence.
Having returned another set of balls to the basket, flopped down by a tree. Leaning his face against his hand, he could feel it burning. He swore mildly under his breath. Already he was sunburnt. Occasionally, usually when she wasn't looking, he'd glare at the PE teacher, as if that might make the situation better. He had been just walking from the chemistry lab to the library when she grabbed him. She insisted he help out with the games for the afternoon. Supposedly it'd help him get to know the students and shiz like that. Bull. Complete bull. They were blanetly ignoring him except for the occasional insult or tease. God he wanted to go back inside.

Kylie was bored out of her mind. She was beginning to wonder why on Earth she'd signed up for this stupid PE class. She hated baseball; she'd thought that this would be more of a flying class. Or at least maybe they could play something similar to Quidditch or something. Not boring, run-of-the-mill baseball. She noticed another teacher in the field, and wondered if he might supervise if she just did some flying around, which seemed a lot more interesting than doing this crap. She went up to the PE teacher and asked. The lady sighed, but consented, yelling "IF ANYONE WANTS TO GO DO SOME FLYING RACES, FOLLOW THIS GIRL AND PROFESSOR K:ANODE!"
Kylie ran over to the other Professor. "Sorry I got you roped in to this," she apologized, feeling guilty. It didn't look like he was having much fun out there.

Vix had just stepped out onto the field, hoping they had something that would allow him to fly around, when he heard the PE teacher shouting for those who wanted to do flying races to follow Kylie and K:anode. He figured it would be a bit of fun, and at least a reason to stretch out his wings. He chased after Kylie, following her out to where K:anode is. He wasn't afraid of losing, he expected to actually. For him, flying had never been about sped, just about the amazing feeling of the wind in his face. The soaring feeling, and sometimes, he liked embracing his inner freak. He ruffled up his wings, stretching them out a bit when e reached Kylie. "Mind if I join?" He asked, "I've been looking for a reason to get up in the air, this seems like a good enough one."

Getting more bored, and sleepy in the heat, K:anode yawned.
"IF ANYONE WANTS TO GO DO SOME FLYING RACES, FOLLOW THIS GIRL AND PROFESSOR K:ANODE!"
The sound of the teacher's shout cut him off. He looked at her in confusion and mild disgust. Flying races? Flying races? He'd rather play fetch for the freshmen then actually be given responsibility and an actual task to do. Before he could attempt to argue with her though, one of the students ran over. He scowled at her for a second, before sighing. It'd be bad form to be like this.
"It's not a problem... Kylie wasn't it?"he replied, smiling almost believably. He'd seen her name on the roll call lists they had to make it easier for new teachers to learn names. There didn't seem to be many others, if anyone who was interested in joining the races though. Vix had joined them though. "Shouldn't be a problem. It's hardly a race if there's only one competitor, right?"He replied, smirking. God he hoped neither of them tried to persuade him to join in. He really wasn't in the humor. He never much liked flying. He wasn't too keen on the heights, the speed or anything like that. Having grown up in the city he always feared flying into a skyscraper, or a plane or something. His attention span could be pretty weak. He predicted that one moment he'd be admiring a cloud or something and next he'd have face-walled the Empire State building.
Regardless, he led them off towards an empty field, not too far from the base ball pitch. Hopefully far enough that no one would get hit by a stray ball. "Will around here do? Around the playing fields or something?"He suggested, looking about lamely. He really didn't care for these things.

Kylie waved to Vixen, the boy she'd met at lunch a couple days ago. At least it was a familiar face.
Kylie made a face. He was really going to make them actually do races? Couldn't they just... fly around? Fairy wings never were very fast, and she was probably one of the slowest people around.
"Um..." she started, "Professor K:anode, do we actually have to race? The PE teacher will never know if we just fly around. Maybe we could just do some stunts or something? You could just sit under a tree and supervise us. It wouldn't be too hard..." The girl was trying to appeal to the fact that this teacher certainly didn't seem the type who really liked athletic sorts of things. And considering the teacher himself didn't seem too thrilled about the idea of doing races, she figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Vix nodded, agreeing with Kylies idea. He didn't want to race either, he hoped no one else here really did either. God knows how many of the kids were hooked by the word race, but he hoped more were hooked by the word flying. That's what got his attention, and that's what Kylie seemed to be aiming for. He further stretched out his wings, and let them sway absent mindedly. He didn't seem to notice until a light breeze hit them, then Vix straightened them out more, holding them still. He needed to get a grip on letting them do what feels right, probably made he look a little more freaky. "No more swaying" He told himself under his breath. He wanted so bad to take to the air immediately, but it would be better to just wait. Rushing didn't look good, and Vix had a feeling that a quick take off would be clumsy on his part, beings he hadn't quite adjusted to his new height. Slow and steady wins the race, they say.

K:anode looked at her boredly for a moment, as if he could read her mind by doing so... or maybe he was just starring into the space around her. "Uh.. sure whatever."He replied eventually, shrugging. "Just don't do anything stupid and if something happens, tell me."He added, backing off towards a tree. He glanced over to the PE teacher, who was starting yet another round of baseball. She seemed to never grow tired of what seemed to him to be an extremely repetitive sport. Not to mention pointless. "Oh, and if she comes over here, act like your doing something somewhat educational."He added, smirking a little, though there was caution in his eyes. That woman scared him him stupid. She was tall and muscular. Taller then him. She had a habit of giving playful punches, one of which knocked him off his balance and into a wall. She hadn't even noticed. God knew what she could do if she actually wanted to hurt him. He sat under one of the more shaded trees, pulling out a box of toffee as he did so. This idea seemed to be working out well enough.

"Thanks Professor!" Kylie said happily, giving the teacher a hug. Hugs were things Kylie doled out quite frequently, almost as if they were candy or something. She figured the professor wouldn't mind; no one had ever told her that they didn't want her to hug them, and it wasn't as if it really meant much of anything. It was just another way for Kylie to say thanks.
The girl let her wings stretch out, glad to be able to open them fully. She fluttered them a bit, just to get out all the kinks and folds in them. She glanced over at the PE teacher as she did so. She could understand why Professor K:anode wouldn't want to make her angry; the lady was huge and muscular. Plus she looked as though she could really pack a punch if she wanted to.
"Coming, Vixen?" she asked playfully as she took off, hovering above the ground as she waited.

Vix nodded up at Kylie, only half hearing what she was saying. Her wings were distracting him. They were gorgeous. Pale pink fairy wings, they had some blue and gold in them too, he thought he saw. He shook himself out of his trance. He really needed to work on his staring problem. He shook out his legs a bit and started off slowly, beginning to take to the air. His wings seemed to be a bit too big for him, which slightly frightened him. That could mean he would become even taller than he already was. "Give me wings and make me freakishly tall? Wonderful, that's exactly what I've always wanted." He thought. He hovered a a few yards away from Kylie, not wanting to hit her with his wings. She was so small, with tiny wings to match, she'd have to get terribly close to hit him with hers.

Vixen seemed to be having troubles flying. Kylie flew a little closer to him, careful to stay away from his large wings. The last thing Kylie needed was for those spikes on the ends to cut through the gossamer membranes of her own wings.
"Are you having some trouble?" she asked, her wings fluttering at a mad pace, giving her somewhat of a hummingbird appearance. She'd been told that she often looked like a hummingbird, with her small size and rapidly beating wings. Her arms were folded across her chest, and she hovered upright, one eyebrow raised quizzically above the other.
It looked to Kylie as though he was a bit unused to the size of his wings. Given his towering stature, she wouldn't have been surprised to find out that he'd had a major growth spurt. That's the way it looked to her, in any case.

"I grew nearly two feet in the past year. Takes a bit of adjusting." He said, trying to talk over the hum of her wings. Her wings were beating so fast, the looked like a blur. His wings barely had to move to keep him up. They just sort of rose and fell in a natural slow manner. Her wings were so thin too. He could partially see through them. Just barely transparent.
"But, yeah, I'm fine. I ought to adjust soon enough though. I don't believe I've flown since my last five inches. My wings have practically tripled in size." He looked to each of them, realizing he could easily wrap them around him eight or nine times. Him being thin probably didn't help that matter. His wings always seemed so bulky against his back, and looked lumpy. He couldn't stand when people stared at them either.

Kylie smiled at him sympathetically. She'd never really had what one would call a "growth spurt". She'd just steadily grown to the height she was now, then stopped, so she'd never had any trouble adjusting to flying with her new size. "I imagine so," she said with a laugh. His wings moved extremely slow compared to her own, much more like a big bird instead of a hummingbird.
"Your wings are beautiful," she said, taking in the sight of the massive limbs. They were huge, jet black, and had gorgeous silver accents in them. In the sunlight, Kylie thought they looked rather like his hair; like a raven's feathers. "Tripled in size? Wow, really? I don't think mine have ever grown that much in one sitting. Never really been through the whole growth spurt thing, you know?"
The girl flew up higher, getting a great view of the baseball diamond. Poor saps she thought, Stuck playing that ridiculous game.

Vix blushed again. "Thanks..." He said, his voice barely above a whisper. He looked down, he wasn't too high up, so he pushed himself higher. "Well, unless you went from 3 feet to 5 feet in a year, I wouldn't imagine you having much or a growth spurt at all." He half chuckled, the red in his face fading. He looked over at the baseball field, following Kylies glance. "At least we don't have to be down there, here the view is much better, and the breeze cools it off a lot more. " He beat his wings faster, trying to see the affect. He shot upwards unintentionally, and slowly let himself glide back down to where Kylie stayed hovering. "You know, it's not really flying if you stay in the same place, right?" He smirked. "You were the one with the racing idea, were you not?"

Kylie laughed softly as Vixen's face turned red. He was cute when he blushed like that. He got embarrassed so easily, too...
She nodded in agreement to his observation, and was blown off a few feet when Vixen suddenly rocketed upward. She laughed and rolled her eyes at him.
"Now what was that for?" she asked playfully. When he mentioned the racing idea, she shrugged nonchalantly.
"Well, actually, I just said that to the PE teacher to get her to let us leave. I'm not a huge fan of baseball, and all I really wanted to do today was fly. But hey, if you're up for a race, I'm game!" she laughed, suddenly rising higher in the air with seemingly no effort. It was nearly impossible to tell when she was going to take off, because her wings looked like the same blur no matter how fast they were going. "So how far do you want to go?" she asked him.

Vix shrugged. "I don't really care. I just want to move, staying one place makes me all jittery. I think I have restless wing syndrome. And about the random shot upward, I was trying to see if I could stay in the same place but move my wings quickly the way you do." He said, rising up as she did. "You can choose how far, but at least more than 20 yards please, I'm a slow start." He rolled his shoulders, extending his wings to their full length, well over 20 feet of them. " The unfortunate part is I used to run faster than I could fly, beings I never had a chance to practice flying. But I think I've gotten better. Hopefully better enough to beat you." He smirked. "Fairy wings weren't built for speed, but you're so tiny I don't see how you could be slow. And I bet you're awful agile."
