Kylie leaned back against the tree, reveling in the warmth of the rough bark on her back. Her eyes were closed, but she could feel the sun beating down on her face in any case. She ran her fingers down the fabric of her lime-green plaid miniskirt, smoothing it down so that she knew it covered everything it ought to. Her matching tie was knotted loosely, hanging down on her short-sleeved, button-down, cream-colored shirt.
Next, her fingers made their way to her opposite wrist, where she felt the shiny coolness of the silver charm bracelet there. She traced the edge of the fairy charm, a faint smile gracing her lips as she thought of her brother, Dalton, and of home.
Of course, thinking of home reminded her of Vixen, whom she had invited to come to her house for the winter holidays. That had certainly been a strange encounter. Given, Kylie was a very friendly girl, but even very friendly girls usually did not end up making out with someone they'd just met. Okay, maybe very "friendly" girls did, but that friendly would be in quotations for a very good reason.
Since then, the two had gone on a single date, but hadn't really planned another one. Kylie had gotten the impression that Vixen wasn't a huge fan of the beach, though she had no idea why that was. She was a little afraid to suggest another date idea, since she didn't want him to feel like he had to go places he didn't like. She wondered if maybe he was a little miffed at her for picking the beach in the first place.
In any case, various summer activities had kept the two apart for several days, and Kylie wondered when she would see him again.
