The boy who lived walked across the soft grass in the late morning sun. It was to nice a day for the events that had happened and he felt guilty to be alive, yet he had chosen it. To be able to walk around the black lake as he had just done, eying the tentacles that lazily broke the surface of the water. He had chosen to live and he was sure that he would not regret it later on, when he was snogging Ginny silly, when he would be able to laugh again, whenever that time might come along. For now he walked with his two closest friends, the two that, as far as he cared, had been with him through it all. Their feet slowly progressed back towards the castle, though none of them was sure if they were ready to face the occupants yet. Silent, they had been silent all the while and he was not certain if they could ever feel right speaking again, that is if they felt the same as he did. As he opened the familiar doors the boy that was sure he was rightly a man turned right, towards the staircase. The others looked towards one another's faces shrugging their shoulders in unison as if to say, if he must , and they matched his pace. But the man had sped up, lunging up the stairs, sure that this was what he was supposed to do. He was up the three flights before he stopped, taking a quick left. He passed one, two, and soon six doors before stopping at the seventh, and then he entered.
The man stepped forward, closer, stopping for a moment to ponder if this a wise choice, He had seen this mirror before, been warned, of the mirror of Erised. But if at any time he needed to see his hearts desire it was now, he needed to see a happy sight, to glance upon his parents faces. So he stepped closer, in the direct front of the mirror. There they were, the now familiar faces of his dear parents, the messy hair and the green eyes. And once again they were not alone. There was Sirius laughing what he was sure would be a barking laugh. Remus holding the hand of a woman with bubblegum pink hair. Cedric Diggory and Colin Creevey both sized him up from the back, smiling happily. Fred Weasley wore a sweater in blue that said Gred in large silver letters. And there were familiar sparkling blue eyes peaking over a crooked nose with fondness. He looked towards the words again, whispering them as if they were all he needed, enthralled. Ginny stepped into the mirror, taking the hand of mirror Harry and kissing him on the cheek. It was the that he noticed, mirror Harry had no scar, but that was no trouble as this was his desire right? The real Ginny rushed into the room, following Hermione who had gathered her in hopes that she could help him. Ron falteringly tugged at his sleeve, unsure of the look on his friends face. For some reason Harry decided to read it backwards, maybe it was the look on his face in the mirror.
Harry did not hear the others pleadings, their demands that he look away. He only saw the Harry in the mirror that was so happy, unmarred. Slowly he reached up, his mind not realizing what he was doing. Ron tried to tug his arm down but Harry was so sure that he must do this. His voice was constantly telling the words under his breath. His spell sped up, he was so obsessed that he never wanted to look away. And he finally listened to the words, slowing them down, tasting them on his breath. The freckled two near him breathed a sigh of relief, sure that he would look away now, but the bushy haired girl seemed to know different. She had seen him like this before, she knew that he would not give up. Harry slowed down once again, taking a moment to figure out the riddle, and he said it.
His face shown with glee, an ostentatious smile gleefully sounding in the silence. Then he heard a scream, a long high note that tore at his heart and he looked toward the girl he knew had made it. Ginny was running at him, her fingers clutching at him as he attempted to pull him toward her. Slowly the other two joined and he was to busy watching their terror to notice its source. The mirror rippled like water, it had already swallowed up the hand of its unwitting beholder. He tried to pull back, to break the mirrors hold on him, but it was useless. Slowly the mirror had gulped down his arm and then his waist was being sucked in. He tried to keep his head above, as if it would save him. And the he felt himself being completely tugged in, only his foot left and a grip, he was sure it was Ron tightened on him and he prayed that just this once his best mate would not be clumsy. But it was to late. He fell into the mirror and couldn't help but think, how silly I just defeated Tom Riddle and I am eaten by a mirror. And he wondered what would come next, but his face collided with the floor, he had fallen back into the room. But the others had gone, were they looking for help? He took a wary glance towards the mirror and then ran from the room, straight into, himself? But this was the Harry from the mirror! There was no scar and he had a sort of goofy confidence to him that Harry would never have managed. They both yelled, wrenching their wands in identical motions from their pockets. And the Harry from this universe uttered a spell, stunning the bewildered Harry with quick skills. He looked down at himself and wondered, why is this guy so dirty and why does he have that stupid scar and why is he impersonating me? In the other realm, the realm that Harry was already missing, Ron was comforting his hysterical sister as the girl he had snogged a couple hours ago was investigating the mirror through blurry eyes and demanding that he told her what Harry had been saying. The three knew that they had to figure it out to save him, but would they be marching to their deaths?
