~Background: Alex was put up for adoption when she was first born. Little is known about her biological mother. When Alex was born, small growths were found on her back. The doctors tried to remove them, but within a week's time, they had grown back. Alex was adopted by Melvin and Rachael Flynn specifically because of these growths. Or, rather, what they would become.
Alex grew up in the Flynn household with three other children, all with the same sorts of strange growths on their backs. By the time each of them were five, the growths had developed into wings. Alex's were reminiscent of an angel's, while Jacob's and Harlem's were dragon-like, and Sara's looked like butterfly wings. Melvin and Rachael traveled the country, looking for children such as these, that developed wings, adopted those without homes, and raised them in a safe environment away from as much prejudice as they could. This inspired Alex, and when she grew old enough to start college, she decided she would run a school specially for winged children.
While taking college classes online, Alex would often sit outside her home in the country. She'd been having electrical troubles, and so she called the electrician. She was sitting outside, wings undisguised, when the electrician arrived twenty minutes before he was supposed to. The electrician, Marcus, was overcome by Alex's appearance, believing her to be an angel. The two started dating, and eventually married.
A year and a half later, Marcus and Alex had a daughter. But there was something wrong: Alex had passed on her winged gene, and their daughter had wings as well. Marcus became angry with Alex for giving him a "freak daughter". He left Alex and their child that night, and was never heard from again until the divorce papers reached Alex through mail. To this day, Alex is mistrustful of men because of what Marcus did to her.
A month after Marcus left her, the builders of Alex's school were finally finished. There Galaxium Academy stood, a school for the winged children of the world, where no one would be a freak because of their wings.
~Role Play Sample: From Warrior Cats: Secrets on the Lakeshore. warriorscatslake.proboards.com Silentwind padded -silently, of course- through the undergrowth to the right and slightly behind Cottonpaw, where she wasn't expecting him to appear, and where she wouldn't see him. He'd felt that she was going a little too fast and wanted to teach her a bit of a lesson. There had been some problems with dogs and two-legs in the area lately, and he didn't want his new apprentice killed right off the bat. Silently, the tom crept up behind the young she-cat and bit down lightly on her tail. It was hard enough to startle her, but not hard enough to actually give her any pain.
"You do, do you?" he answered her plea from before about wanting to learn before she became old. One eyebrow was raised in a quizzical manner that conveyed sarcastic surprise. "Well then, perhaps you shall instead learn the value of patience. I have very effective ways of teaching that, you know. Yes, yes, very effective ways. Yes, I think that's what I'll do then. I'll teach you patience instead of fishing today. After all, you wanted to learn before you became old, and patience is the best lesson to teach when you're young. That is what you wanted, yes?" His purr was silky, yet sarcastic. He did understand her enthusiasm. Only a few days ago, his excited young apprentice had been the loner Berry, found gazing intently into RiverClan territory from the border by Silentwind himself. Now she was Cottonpaw, an official member of RiverClan, and there was so much to learn. He remembered when he was a new apprentice, and how overwhelming the whole learning process had seemed. But he'd been extremely excited to begin learning the new things as quickly as possible. And he could see that same excitement now in Cottonpaw's eyes.
When he'd been an apprentice, Silentwind's first lesson was, indeed, a lesson on patience. His mentor, an old, grizzled warrior who really ought to have been in the elder's den but refused to give up his warrior status, had told him straight off that he had no time for a young apprentice constantly begging to learn this or that. He'd teach Silentpaw (as he had been named then) whatever he wanted whenever he dang well pleased, and not a moment sooner. Silentwind had quickly learned his lesson in patience, too.
Of course, Silentwind was only kidding about giving Cottonpaw that lesson, at least until the need arose, which it very well might. He hadn't liked the patience lesson one bit, and he'd thought of himself as a rather calm individual back then. He'd been quite different from his new apprentice, who was obviously full of the excited energy that could only be provided by a combination of both actual youth, and a youthful soul, whereas Silentwind was very obviously an 'old soul', and had been since a very young age.
